Speech therapists collaborate closely with teachers and parents to support students' communication development. They may provide strategies and resources for classroom teachers to facilitate communication skills in the classroom and offer guidance to parents on how to reinforce these skills at home.
Behavior Therapy
BCBAs design and implement programs to teach individuals new skills and promote skill acquisition in areas such as communication, socialization, self-care, academic skills, and independent living. They use evidence-based teaching methods and behavioral strategies to systematically teach and reinforce desired behaviors.
Occupational Therapy
OTs provide direct intervention and therapy services to students, either individually or in small groups, to address specific areas of difficulty identified during assessment. These interventions may include activities to improve hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, visual perception, sensory processing, self-regulation, and organizational skills.
Special Education
Special education teachers are trained to provide specialized instruction tailored to the individual needs of students with disabilities. This may involve differentiated instruction, multisensory teaching methods, adapted materials, and assistive technology to address each student's learning style and level of ability.
School Counselors
School Counselors help students develop social and academic skills by meeting with them individually, in groups, or in classrooms. They work with families and school staff to help students improve their decision-making, study, and social skills and advise students on academic plans. School counselors need to be able to handle emergencies and offer preventative measures to create a safe learning environment. Topics a school counselor might offer should be about bullying, substance abuse, stress management family and friend dynamics or equality to promote respect for every student.
Music Therapy
Music has the ability to convey emotions and facilitate communication, even for individuals who may have difficulty expressing themselves verbally. Music therapists use musical activities such as playing instruments, singing, and improvisation to encourage non-verbal expression and communication.
Vision Therapy
TVIs adapt and modify curriculum materials to make them accessible to students with visual impairments. This may involve providing large print materials, braille textbooks, tactile graphics, and audio recordings, as well as teaching students how to use assistive technology devices and software.
